TABC Certification and our changing industry
TABC On The Fly started certifying in 2013, and one of the coolest things to watch has been the growth of our industry. Bars. Restaurants. Hotels. Grocery stores like Whole Foods and Kroger that now allow customers to have a drink while they shop. And an exploding craft brewery scene.
The Dallas-Fort Worth area alone is home to about a third of all beer producers in the state of Texas. In additional to bringing us awesome beer, these breweries are strengthening the economy of our state by creating thousands of good jobs. According to stats compiled by the Bureau of Labor Statistics in late 2015, Texas breweries were responsible for creating an average of 25 new jobs each. Multiply that times 100+ breweries across the state, and it’s easy to see how many people and their families are directly benefiting from this growing industry. But it’s not just them who benefit. As these small breweries and employees conduct their own day-to-day business, they’re stimulating our economy by supporting other businesses as well. And there’s always the added benefit of additional tax revenue.
Another impressive change has been with stores like Whole Foods and Kroger. These places are grocery stores at heart, but some have evolved to serving alcohol for on-premise consumption as well. This means you can enjoy a glass of wine or pint of beer while you do your grocery shopping for the week. Some Whole Foods locations even have bars inside where you can pull up a chair and enjoy a pint.
Our industry has changed substantially over the last decade or so, and it will inevitably continue to do so. And while change is not always easy, we have enjoyed growth and the creation of new products, services, and good-paying jobs. As always, it’s up to each of us to stay on top of our TABC certification and keep alcohol out of the hands of minors and intoxicated people.
TABC On The Fly is an official provider of on-site and online TABC certification approved by the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission.
